1954 born in Paris.

1972-80 Studies in in Art History and Spanish and Portugese Literature and Linguistics.

1981-90 Curator at the National Museum of Modern Art, Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.

1989-91 Professor at the École du Louvre, courses in Contemporary Art

1990-93 "Primitive" History of Cubism, courses in Anthropology and Aesthetics at the Department of Ethnology, University of Paris X - Nanterre.

since 1990 Curator at the National Gallery of the Jeu de Paume, Paris

1994-97 Artistic director of the documenta X in Kassel.
