Announcement of title and list of artists

The Fundación Municipal Bienal de Cuenca, directed by Katya Cazar, made public the list of artists and the theme of its 16th edition in charge of prestigious Argentinean curator Ferran Barenblit.

Conceptually titled Quizá mañana (Maybe Tomorrow), the 16th Cuenca Biennial, which will open on December 8, 2023, will be an edition that reflects on democracy and present-day conflicts, with a special emphasis on Latin America. However, in his curatorial concept Ferran Barenblit warns:
"Art operates in the space of the indeterminate, the imprecise, the incorrect. Through continuous questions, it renounces any will of indisputable truth. It requires complicities, passions and courage. It is situated between what is said and what is not said, in the idea that when something is said, it is possible that the exact opposite is meant. That is what gives it its overwhelming potential, thinking that anything can happen, maybe tomorrow."
Curatorial text

Ferran Barenblit, renowned curator and museum director, has an extensive career. He has led three prestigious art institutions in the last twenty years; the Santa Monica Art Center (Barcelona), the Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo (Móstoles) and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona. He currently lives in Ann Arbor, USA, where he is a visiting professor at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
