Manuela Moscoso

Adjunct curator of the 12th International Cuenca Biennial, 2014

Manuela Moscoso is an independent curator based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Moscoso's curatorial practice focuses on generating research, new commissions and display. Whether organizing exhibitions, initiating an artist-run-space, an online platform or residency program, she sees collaboration as an integral part of her practice. She has recently curated exhibitions such as: Yael Davis (2013, Museo de Arte do Rio), Ficisismos (2013, Universidad di Tella, Buenos Aires), Quarter System (2013, Navarra University, Spain), co-curated The Queens Biennial, The Queens Museum, New York, Before Everything, CA2M, Madrid, among others.

Since 2010, together with curator Sarah Demeuse she runs Rivet, a curatorial office focused on object-oriented thought and its overlaps with artistic practice. This research has materialized in sequential research exhibitions and publications about generics and deployment, and resonance and repetition. Rivet does not run a space of its own but instead chooses to work with engaged partners. The office has curated exhibitions and projects in collaboration with: Artium (Vitoria, Spain), ICI (New York), Galerie Tatjana Pieters (Gent, Belgium), 98weeks (Beirut), Goethe Institut (New York), The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts (New York) and Vera List Center for the Arts, New School (New York). Rivet is now finishing the book For all we Know edited by Archive Books, and is preparing an exhibition for P!exaclamation (January 2014, New York), and the Wilson Exercise (Stavanger Institute, Norway and RedCat LA).

Manuela Moscoso was granted the Art Curatorial Fellowship at the Queens Museum. She was part of the curatorial team for the projects section in ARCO 2012 focused on Latin America. Moscoso holds an MA in Curatorial Studies at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, New York, and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design, London.
