Katya Cazar

Director of the Foundation Bienal de Cuenca

* 1973 Cuenca, Ecuador.

Graduated in visual arts, Katya Cazar has a specialization in curating contemporary art and a Masters in Cultural Studies. She is a visual artist and independent curator, and has realized her artistic and curatorial projects in Ecuador, where she resides, as well as in different countries. Currently she is the Director of the Fundación Bienal de Cuenca.

Among her last works is the curatorial project for the 11th Cuenca Biennial under the title: Atrabiliario (2011). She was assistant curator of Gerardo Mosquera in the project Patios, Arte Contemporáneo, Quito, 2010. In 2009, she was in charge of the curatorship of Anti plano, at the New York Photo Fest. She curated the exhibition of women artists in contemporary art of Ecuador Espacios Mínimos, Quito (2008).

She was invited to the meeting of curators IKT in Madrid (2013). Since 2012, she is part of the editorial team of the art magazine of the Universidad Católica de Chile.

Among other activities, she was Professor of Graduate and Postgraduate courses for Analysis of the Discourse in Contemporary Art, Latest Trends in Art at the Universidad del Azuay and the Universidad de Cuenca.

She was panelist and coordinator of the project Art and Latest Trends, and contributor of the magazine El Búho.

She has carried out online projects with professors and art teachers from different Latin American Universities; she has collaborated with texts of theory and criticism for various media.
