The KW Institute for Contemporary Art (KW) is housed in a former margarine factory from the 18th century. In 1991, a group of young art enthusiasts rented the building-complex for use as an exhibition venue and for studios. From 1995-98, the courtyard was redesigned in cooperation with the artist Dan Graham, who created the Café Bravo as his first walkable sculpture. The addition of an exhibition hall (ca. 600 sqm) was completed in 2000.The KW is a venue for the presentation, production and promotion of contemporary art. It is one of the main exhibition venues of the Berlin Biennale.(Information from the organizers)
