Canal Grande Tour 2: Ca' Pesaro - Rialto

Also the 2nd part of our Canal Grande Tour shows not only facades like seen from a Vaporetto, but also interiors of Palazzi that are museums or art spaces.

It starts at Ca' Pesaro, a baroque palace that hosts the 19th- and 20th-century collections of the International Gallery of Modern Art, and the Museum of Oriental Art.

Close by, at the Ca’ Corner della Regina, there is the Venetian headquarters of Fondazione Prada, including large spaces for temporary art exhibitions.

On the other side of the Canal Grande, there is one of the most famous buildings of the Venetian Gothic period, Ca' d'Oro. It hosts the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti which is based on the collection of this donor.

Another art venue is Palazzo Michiel, regularly used for exhibitions parallel to the International Art Exhibition, and the Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale.

This part of the tour ends at Fondaco dei Tedeschi, a huge building right beside of Rialto bridge. During centuries it was a warehouse, market and living quarters for German merchants. In the 20th century it was the city's main post office. In 2008, the building was bought by the Benetton Group which commissioned the Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas to transform it into a luxury department store, what generated heated discussions among the population of Venice, and experts worldwide. It was opened in October 2016, including an exhibition space, located direcly below a rooftop terrace with a spectacular view.
