From Fond. Briati to Ca' Rezzonico

Fondamenta Briati, Ca' Zenobio, Santa Maria Carmini, San Barnaba, Ca' Rezzonico

Overall distance: Approx. 1,2 km

Continuing our walk through the less crowded areas of Dorsoduro, this second strech of the way first returns from the University IUAV to the Church of the Angel Raphael.

On Fondamenta Briati along Rio dei Carmini, we take a look at Ca' Zenobio, often used for exhibitions during the Venice Biennal, and take a rest at the garden of Palazzina Briati of Università Ca' Foscari.

The church of Santa Maria dei Carmini from the 14th Century, is one of the highlights of this walk, with its Byzantine marble reliefs on the left side entrance, and its rich interior.

Making a detour to Campo Santa Margherita, a lively place characterized by small shops, bars and restaurants, our way goes down to rio San Barnaba, and walking along it in direction to the Canal Grande, we pass the traditional fruit and vegetable boat on the side of the “Ponte dei Pugni” (Bridge of the fists), where rival factions of the city used to hold their fights.

From Campo San Barnaba, the Fondamenta Rezzonico leads to the main entrance of Ca' Rezzonico, a magnificent Baroque palace on the Canal Grande, home to the Museum of the 18th Century Venice.
