Sharjah Calligraphy Museum

Sharjah Calligraphy Museum

The museum was opened in 2002 in the building of the house of Hamad Al Midfaa in the Sharjah Heritage Area (Heart of Sharjah). Works on canvas, wood, paper and ceramics, created by local artists and well-known international calligraphers, demonstrate the complexity of this art form and its historical foundations.

Besides of works from the permanent collection and the techniques of calligraphy, the museum presents changing exhibitions. Every two years it is one of the venues of the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, organized by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information (SDCI). The museum also organizes workshops and conferences. In the adjacent building there are studios of calligraphers.

The Sharjah Calligraphy Museum is part of the Sharjah Museums Authority. It is used regularly by the Sharjah Biennial as a temporary exhibition venue.
