Sharjah Art Museum

The Sharjah Art Museum, established in 1995 under the Art Directorate of the Department of Culture & Information, was originally housed in Bait Al Serkal. The current building with its windtower architecture, is one of the main landmarks in Arts Square. It was inaugurated on 9 April 1997 during the 3rd Sharjah Biennial.

The building consists of two wings, interconnected by two passage ways over an interior street. Sixty-eight halls of various sizes cover a total area of aprox. 11,000 square meters.

Housing permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, the Sharjah Art Museum presents works by international and Arab artists who have explored the history and culture of the region. Until 2023, it hosts A Century in Flux, a selection of key modernist paintings, sculptures and mixed media artworks from the Barjeel Art Foundation collection.

The Sharjah Art Museum is part of the Sharjah Museums Authority. It is regularly used as one of the exhibition venues of the Sharjah Biennial, organized by the Sharjah Art Foundation.
