The stone mask belongs to the Uhde Collection, which was purchased for Berlin in 1862. Like the other standardized stone masks from Teotihuacan, it makes a simple and harmonic impression. It has a broad, straight forehead; the eyes and mouth are formed in parallel horizontals. The clearly carefully chosen stone and the smoothly polished surface underscore the elegant impression the mask makes.
Recent years’ research in Teotihuacan has confirmed the suspicion that such stone masks were once attached to corpse bundles.
