T. E. Lawrence wrote inspiring and powerful descriptions of Wadi Rum in his famous autobiographical account “Seven Pillars of Wisdom” (1926). Expressing his overwhelming awe when he first entered Wadi Rum he recorded, among other thoughts: "Our little caravan grew self-conscious, and fell dead quiet, afraid and ashamed to flaunt its smallness in the presence of stupendous hills."
