The most famous monument in Petra, the 39-meters-high mausoleum for a Nabataean king or queen, carved deep into the rock face during the first half of the 1st century AD.

The vertical rows of slots on either side of the facade served as climbing notches and as supports for scaffolding structures to work the exterior of the building. They start about 12 m above the terrace in front of the entrance to the Khazneh. Read more in the chapter "Construction" on the Al-Khazneh start page.
