Sea monsters

Along the eastern wall, there are two sea monsters who challenge each other.

This might be a reference to the tragic end of the myth: Poseidon sends a sea monster to the beach where Hippolytus is riding his chariot. The horses bolt and make him fall from the chariot, what leads to his death.

Hippolytus Hall

The elaborate figurative design of the floor of a private villa from the 6th century is unique among Jordan's mosaics. It depicts the ancient myth of Hippolytus.
