Emir (Prince) Abdullah, the first of the Royal Hashemites to rule Jordan, arrived in Amman in March 1921. At that time there were no houses on Jabal Amman and few in the downtown area. Emir Abdullah lived in various areas of the city until the Raghadan Palace was completed in 1927. In 1935 his son, the future King, Prince Talal, moved with his new wife Sharifa Zein into one of the new homes in Jabal Amman. It was in this house with its now ivy-covered walls that three of their children spent their formative years, including the young Prince Hussein who became a child of Jabal Amman – his room was the upper front room.
