Camel carrying amphorae
Pottery. Hellenistic (2nd - early 1st century BC)
Gerasa - Jerash
There is a small jar on the camels back, between the four amphorae, with a hole for filling the vessel with fluid. The small spouts in the camel's chest is for pouring aided by a handle at the back.
For such, all vases were found in a tomb on the Jerash city wall. This funerary offerings also included a bull-vase salt to be from Cartage, and a ceramic horn of Egyptian origin. These offerings indicate that the owners of the tomb where traders.
