Iron Age I (1200-1000 BC)
Tabaqat Fahl / Pella in the northern Jordan Valley
Tower shaped cult stand with a flat tray on top. The front carries two figures of the nude goddess of fertility, Astarte, standing above the head of a feline. The other sides are covered with a thick red slip and decorated with geometric designs in yellow paint. Two human heads rise from the rim.
There are traces of blackening inside the rim and around the two faces, and the tray was repeatedly relined with plaster and red wash, suggesting that this stand held burnt offering.
