The Feria del Millón, founded in 2013 by Diego Garzón and Juan Ricardo Rincón, originated in the necessity of the artists to find a place to exhibit and offer their work to an audience interested in investing in artworks of reasonable prices.
The peculiarity of the event is that the artworks don't exceed 1 million Colombian Peso as maximum price. All earnings go to the artists. The fair doesn't charge commission for the sales or the space.
The Feria del Millón takes place at the Centro Creativo Textura, located in the former textile factory Textura in the neighborhood Puente Aranda, south of the Avenida de las Américas.
For participating in the second edition in 2014, a total of 742 artists submitted their portfolios. From them, 51 were selected by a selection committee integrated by the historian and researcher Álvaro Medina; María Belén Sáez de Ibarra, art curator and Director of cultural outreach of the National University; Estefanía Sokoloff, curator and cultural manager; and Ana María Millán, artist, curator and professor at the University de los Andes.
According to the organizers, 95% of the exhibited artworks where sold, and almost 80,000 people visited the art fair.
