The Gold Museum is part of the Cultural Deputy Management of the Bank of the Republic of Colombia. Its collection was initiated in 1939 when the Bank acquired a Quimbaya gold vessel or poporo (used to carry the lime that was introduced into the mouth while chewing coca leaves). Today it holds about 34.000 goldsmithing objects and 20.000 stone objects, ceramics, textiles, and precious stones from pre-Columbian cultures.
