The building in front of the Plaza 9 de Julio was built in 1913 based on a project of the architect Arturo Prins. It is an exponent of eclectic architecture in Salta. The construction technology, with the use of columns and profiles of iron and bronze, was avant-garde in its time. In the interior, noteworthy are the wide staircases around the main hall, the polychrome floors of Venetian type, and the stained glass imported from Milan.
Since 1950 it served as the Government House, until 1987, when it was destined to its current use as cultural center.
The aim of the Centro Cultural América is to offer a wide audience a space for meeting, recreation, education and the enjoyment of culture, through a diverse program.
