Quebrada de Humahuaca

It is the oldest town and, along its history, the most important in the Quebrada. Founded by Juan Ochoa de Zárate in 1591 on a pre-existing indigenous village at the banks of the Río Grande de Jujuy. It is located at an altitude of 2,939 m, and today has a population of about 13,000 inhabitants.
