Quebrada de las Conchas
The nature reserve with bizarre rock formations along the river of the same name is one of the most spectacular landscapes in northwestern Argentina.

The so-called Obelisk, one of the best known formations in the Quebrada de las Conches, consists of sedimentary layers from the younger Cretaceous period. Apparently, softer layers around it were washed away and the remaining cone was abraded by the wind.
In the first photo from 2006, there is still no barrier, which was later erected to protect this natural monument (see the third photo above from 2016).
