The Parque de la Memoria is a public space, next to Buenos Aires City University, which is home to the Monumento a las Víctimas del Terrorismo de Estado (Monument for the Victims of State Terrorism) in Argentina, a group of contemporary art works and PAyS exhibition hall, a place for temporary shows where there is an information and documentation center. Pioneer among memory projects that emerged since the late 90´s in the region, the Parque de la Memoria was impelled by a group of representatives of human rights organizations and developed by the Buenos Aires City government with an active participation of civil society.
Similar to the site spirit like the Holocaust Museum in Berlin, el Parque de la Memoria suggests a social reflection/thought space about one of the most traumatic stages of Argentine history and helps keeping alive the construction process of group memory. Through a public art program implemented in the year 2000, art works from Argentine artists Roberto Aizenberg, Claudia Fontes, GAC (Grupo de Arte Callejero), Nicolás Guagnini y Marie Orensanz have been placed and also works from American artists such as Dennis Oppenheim y William Tucker.
