This exhibit shows two costumes of dancers from the Bolivian high plateau, covered with silver plaques. Due to the fact that they are conserved completely, in 2004 they were lent out for an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
These dancers participated in the processions of Corpus Christi or the Virgin of Guadalupe in the city of Sucre in colonial times. The costumes make evident the richness generated in the mines of Potosí. In present times, in some of the communities of the region, the peasants dance with similar costumes, where the silver is replaced by tin plates.
