The collection and museum were established by the businesswoman Amalia Lacroze de Fortabat. The collection includes artworks of Argentinian artists from the 19th Century until the present, as well as more than 200 works by artists of diverse stiles, countries, and periods, and Egyptian and Greek antiquities.
The building, inaugurated in 2008, designed by the Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly, is located at the Northeast end of the Dock 4 of Puerto Madero.
In addition to the exhibition of works form the permanent collection, there are temporary exhibitions of Argentinian artists, with the participation of different curators.
