Interactive Space
Space Design: Shada Safad
Public Programming: Asma Mozayen
This space takes the shape of a cultural salon that brings together artists, activists, and politicians to examine and discuss topics related to the theory and practice of solidarity and its manifestations in different temporal and spatial contexts, especially in Palestine. This salon invites various activities related to the exhibition, such as meetings, workshops, and presentations, to promote discussions and produce audiovisual and written epistemological material pertaining to this theme. The ‘cultural salon’ format was selected as a historic model that can produce various forms of knowledge by creating a constructive critical movement in the society in a way that enriches public debate without relying on a sole intellectual orientation. The space was designed and built in a flexible manner so that can be modified according to the nature of a given activity, to give familiarity and comfort to the participants and audience.
Shatha Safadi designed and furnished the space using an organic method, by borrowing furniture pieces for the salon from groups, organizations, and individuals. This helped create a relationship between the physical ‘place’ and the surrounding community, within an accommodating societal space. This space also combines diverse elements that encourage various and differing opinions to be harmoniously integrated within the framework.
