Seit Ende 2016 zielt eine systematische Kampagne der Delegitimierung und Kriminalisierung auf die NGOs, die im Mittelmeer Such- und Rettungsaktionen durchführen. Diese beiden Videos zeigen eine Gegenuntersuchung, die die Version der Behörden hinterfragt und auf den Konflikt zwischen humanitärer und Sicherheitslogik hinweist.

Fort St. Elmo, Valletta

Fort St. Elmo occupies a strategic position at the tip of the Sceberras peninsula, keeping watch over the mouths of the Grand Harbor and Marsamxett Harbor. It was the scene of a heroic defense during the Great Siege of Malta that took place in 1565 when the Ottoman Empire tried to invade the island, then held by the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem. The Order of St. John’s victory over the Ottomans led to the foundation of a new fortified city built on Mount Sceberras.

The Fort has seen continuous use over the centuries. During the British Period, further alterations and additions were carried out adapting the fort to the various advances in military technology. In 1940, at the start of the WW2, Italian airmen led the first aerial attack on Malta with Fort St Elmo as the main target.

Since 1975, the National War Museum at Fort St Elmo houses an exceptional collection of artefacts that narrate the military history of Malta from the early Bronze Age to Malta's EU Accession in 2004.
