What are the aesthetic methodologies that can take shape out of our collective state of falling in and out of sleep? Could artistic practice take flight from poesies and the contemplative into something socially effective? This exhibition picks up on the thread of dormancy, looking at sleep as an act of neither the singular or collective mind, but rather of a social body carefully plotting action in the face of failed revolutionary attempts. Artists delve into the imaginative to harness the aesthetic, responding through their practice to urgencies and needs of the social.

Upon a Shifting Plate zum Schlüsselwort "kulinarisches " besteht aus diskursiven und performativen Projekten, bei denen Gesprächsrunden, Workshops, Rundgänge, Kochaktionen und andere Events die Produktion und Konsumtion von kulinarischem Erbe erkunden und sich damit beschäftigen, wie Essgewohnheiten unsere psychologische und kulturelle Konditionierung beeinflussen.

The culinary off-site project will be followed by Act II, the concluding program of SB13. On October 14, Act II launches two exhibitions in Beirut, conceived by guest curators Hicham Khalidi and Reem Fadda at Beirut Art Center and Sursock Museum respectively.
Act II features walks, lecture performances, talks, panels, theatre, music and dance across the city, as well as film screenings, including new SB13 commissions. Commissioned books will also be launched during the opening week of Act II, together with a compilation of the publications released throughout SB13 in Beirut, Dakar, Istanbul, Ramallah and Sharjah.

Die von Christine Tohmé kuratierte Sharjah Biennale 13: Tamawuj entwickelt sich in fünf Teilen von Oktober 2016 bis Oktober 2017. Zur Biennale gehören Ausstellungen und ein öffentliches Programm in zwei Akten in Sharjah und Beirut; das ein Jahr andauernde Bildungsprogramm in Sharjah; Off-Site Projekte in Dakar, Istanbul, Ramallah und Beirut; und die Online-Plattform tamawuj.org.
Act II wird gemeinsam veranstaltet von der Sharjah Art Foundation und Ashkal Alwan, der Libanesischen Vereinigung für Bildende Künste, einer gemeinnützigen Organisation in Beirut. Seit 1993 hat sich diese Vereinigung der Produktion, Förderung und Zirkulation kreativer und theoretischer Unterfangen in einer ganzen Reihe von Disziplinen und Medien gewidmet.
