Ausstellung Southern Panoramas

The curating board for the Southern Panoramas was formed by Solange Farkas, Eduardo de Jesus, Fernando Oliva and Júlia Rebouças, with the support of Diego Mattos as assistant curator. Together, the team analysed a body of more than 2.000 projects submitted during the open call, eventually selecting 106 works by 94 artists to integrate the competitive show. Sabrina Moura was the curator of the Public Programs.

Solange O. Farkas

Curator and founder of Associação Cultural Videobrasil, created the International Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil and such exhibitions as Sophie Calle, Cuide de Você (2009), Joseph Beuys – A Revolução Somos Nós (2010-11), Olafur Eliasson – Seu corpo da obra (2011) and Isaac Julien: Geopoéticas (2012), all in São Paulo. As guest curator, she worked on the 10th Sharjah Biennial (United Arab Emirates, 2011) and the 16th Bienal de Cerveira (Portugal, 2011). Over the last twenty-five years as a curator, she has created numerous exhibitions, including Alfabeto infinito – Angela Detanico e Rafael Lain (Porto Alegre, 2013); La Mirada Discreta: Marcel Odenbach & Robert Cahen (Buenos Aires, 2006); and Suspensão e Fluidez (ARCO, Madrid, 2007). She was director and chief curator of the Bahia Museum of Modern Art from 2007 to 2010.

Eduardo de Jesus

*1967 Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Curator. Holder of a degree in social communication from PUC Minas, a master’s degree in communication from UFMG, and a doctorate in the arts from ECA-USP. He lectures on the postgraduation course at the PUC Minas Communication and the Arts School. Among his curatorial projects in audiovisual mediums, TV, film, and contemporary art are esses espaços, Belo Horizonte (2010), Densidade Local, with Gunalan Nadarajan, Festival Transitio-MX, Mexico City (2008), and Mostra Fiat Brasil, São Paulo (2006). Between 2009 and 2010 he and Jochen Volz coordinated the Arte contemporânea: reflexão e crítica specialization course, a partnership between IEC-PUC Minas and Instituto Inhotim. He has published texts, essays, and reviews on contemporary artistic production.

Fernando Oliva

*1971 São Paulo, Brazil. Curator and lecturer, he is currently pursuing a doctorate in art history at ECA-USP, where he is a member of the Art and Photography Study Group. He edited Caderno Sesc_Videobrasil #6 _ Turista/ motorista (2010). He was curatorial director at Centro Cultural São Paulo and curator of Paço das Artes and the Museu da Imagem e do Som in São Paulo. His exhibition projects include Lugar Comum, Laboratório Curatorial SP Arte (2013); O Retorno da Coleção Tamagni – Até as Estrelas por Caminhos Difíceis (2012) and Cover = reencenação + repetição (2008), both at MAM-SP; VOL., Galeria Vermelho, São Paulo (2004); À La Chinoise, Microwave Festival, Hong Kong (2007); Comunismo da Forma, Galeria Vermelho, São Paulo; and AGYU, Toronto (2007).

Júlia Rebouças

*1984 Aracaju, Brazil. Curator, art critic, and researcher, she has worked at Instituto Inhotim (Minas Gerais State) since 2007. She is pursuing a doctorate on the Visual Arts Postgraduate Program at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, from which she also holds a master’s degree. She was assistant curator on the 9th Bienal do Mercosul, Porto Alegre (2013). She was among the young curators nominated for the international Lorenzo Bonaldi Award for Art, Bergamo, Italy (2011). Her independent curatorial projects include A céu aberto, with Suely Rolnik, which ran for the 30th Bienal de São Paulo (2011); Zona de Instabilidade – Lais Myrrha, Caixa Cultural Sé, São Paulo (2013); Ano novo, Galeria Silvia Cintra+Box4, Rio de Janeiro (2011); and Nenhuma Luz – Cristiano Lenhardt, Galeria Amparo 60, Recife (2010).

Sabrina Moura

*1979 Natal, Brasil. Curator, researcher and historian. Graduada em história pela PUC-SP, mestre em estética e história das artes plásticas pela Universidade Paris VIII e direção de projetos culturais pela Universidade de Paris III – Sorbonne Nouvelle. Recebeu o primeiro prêmio do Certamén de Comisariado PhotoEspaña/Transatlántica, pela curadoria da exposição Instantes Extemporáneos: Pasajes abiertos en dirección al movimiento (2010). Trabalhou com produção editorial, cultural e pesquisa em instituições como Glassbox Collectif d’Art, Les Rencontres d’Arles e Magnum Photos. É curadora de Programas Públicos no Videobrasil.
