450 cm x 50 cm map (Carbon drawing) and silk screen text. Based on Google maps of Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese frontiers with Palestine, the frontier line is unfolded and retraced from one side; the other side of Palestine.
The text underneath the map is an etymological deconstruction of the word “dwell” in Arabic. The root of the word has two meanings; one is to “remain or stay in peace”, the other is “being still”. This linguistic complexity reveals an impossibility of dwelling, and hints at the fact that we can only dwell at the end of things or when we die. This contemplation on the "in-between" spaces we find in words continues to exist in another component of the work, the map is an attempt at reading the "limit", but this time the physical one.
What is beyond the limits? If the physical world is defined by the limits of words then deconstructing the spatial meaning of words becomes a prerequisite to understanding that limit. The terrain and settlements are abstracted into pictorial forms and lines, that are unfolded and reattached becoming an organic - somehow an alive- line, that is neither real nor imagined. The presence of the line is defined by the "absence" of land which is defined by the loss of Palestine.
