Works by Olga de Amaral introduce the two prevailing motifs in the exhibition: flowing water and the processes of weaving. A pioneer of fiber art in Latin America, Amaral has been working since the 1950s. Well known for making large-scale yet intricately detailed work that references pre-Hispanic weaving traditions, myths, and motifs, she uses a diversity of materials including linen, fique, silk, paper, parchment, gesso, mud, acrylic, silver, and gold leaf.
