Biennale Bénin

The Biennale Bénin is an initiative following the 2010 festivities, a series of events and large-scale production in dance, theater and visual arts, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Benin and other African countries.

The Biennale Bénin 2012 is considered as the second edition of the event, lead by the Beninese Ministry of Culture and produced by several artists and cultural organizations, including Unik - lieu de création contemporaine, and Espace Tchif, with support from the Fondation Zinsou for the publications, education and productions, and sponsorship from several international organizations.

For the Biennale Bénin 2012, Abdellah Karroum has been chosen as Artistic Director. The event takes place from 8 November 2012 to 13 January 2013 under the theme: "Inventing the World: The Artist as Citizen."

The 2012 edition of the Biennale Bénin will present new commissions and existing works by 36 artists as part of the international exhibition. It will also feature nearly a hundred additional artists in the Special Projects, Encounters and Workshops in cooperation with the associate curators Didier Houénoudé, Anne Szefer Karlsen, Olivier Marboeuf and Claire Tancons, and in dialogue with a group of curators and international professionals (Curatorial Delegation).
