Alfons Hug

General curator, biographical data

He is renowned for his research and critique of contemporary art. Chief curator of the Biennial of São Paulo in 2002 and 2004, curator of the Brazilian pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2003 and 2005, of the 2nd Biennial of the End of the World in Ushuaia (Argentina) and at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (House of the Cultures of the World) in Berlin (1994-1998).

Alfons Hug was director of the Goethe Institute in Lagos (Nigeria), Medellín (Colombia), Caracas (Venezuela), Moscow (Russia) and Brasília (Brazil). Since 2002 he is director of the Goethe Institute in Rio de Janeiro. In 2011 he is curator of the Latin American pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale.
