Dahlem Sessions. 2013-14
Concert, 30 May 2014
As part of the Artistic Team of the 8th Berlin Biennale, Atoui has developed Dahlem Sessions (2013-14), for which he drew from the collection of historical musical instruments housed in the Ethnologisches Museum in Dahlem. For the project, the artist invited approximately twenty musicians to record solos performing on instruments from this collection in various sessions. These "samples" are cataloged into a research archive, which then serves as source material for a suite of sound pieces by international composers who directly and indirectly work with this archive to produce new compositions and live improvisational arrangements.
