Research on objects now housed in the Musée du quai Branly in Paris. These were collected during the 1931-33 Mission Dakar-Djibouti, which poet and antropologist Michel Leiris poignantly recounts in his journal L'Afrique fantôme (1934). The museological artifacts serve as surrogates for the collection that the artist's grandfather, Health Officer Émile Abonnenc, assembled privately in Gabon in 1931 and of which only photographic records remain.
