Cities from the border of the church of the Acropolis of Ma'in, 719/720 A.D., Umayyad period
The ruins of Ma'in, west of Madaba, are identified with Moabite Ba'al Ma'on and Byzantine-Umayyad era Belemounta. In the nave there was an elaborate geometric pattern with figures which were disfigured by iconoclasts. This was surrounded by a two-meter wide border decorated with hunting scenes and a continuous series of buildings.
At the time of the excavation, there were 11 buildings identified by toponyms as cities and villages on the east and west banks of the Jordan River. On the photo, the north side: [Charach M]uba - Karak; Areopolis - Rabbah; Gadoron - Es-Salt; Esbun[ta] - Hesban; and Belemunta - Ma'in.
