The artist explaining his series
Treatise about Argentine Reality. 2006 - 2013
Oil on canvas
24 x 18 cm each
Each piece from this project tries to function as an entry in a kind of self-made Encyclopedia of Argentinean Psycho-political Underground Energies. Always fascinated by historical painters from the XIXth Century, be the French Meissonnier or the Argentinean Cándido López, I tried to emulate them; but I suspect that the times are changing and decisive battles don´t take form anymore in a certain day, with proud display of smoke and horses in the open field, but rather in a fragmented, urban-claustrophobic, guilty-loaded form, in tiny shots of colliding information. (Civil war? Your mind is the civil war!) This painterly project centering the political struggles in Argentina for two centuries mixes elements of everyday life, conspiracy theories, scientific (and pseudo-scientific ) discourse and queer-core slang.
