The Delfina Foundation (based in London) has joined hands with the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Tashkeel and Art Dubai, with the support of the British Council, to host an artists-in-residence programme in the historic neighbourhood of Al Bastakiya in Dubai.
Iranian-Canadian artist Abbas Akhavan and Tobias Collier from the UK partipited in an eight-week residency programme alongside with Emirati artists Hind Bin Demaithan, Shaikha Al Mazrou, and Shamma Al Amri.
Dubai Culture has opened up House 44, a historical building in Al Bastakiya for the residency programme. A temporarily renovated 10-room building, House 44 has been transformed into a live-and-work space for Delfina’s renowned artists-in-residence programme.
All the artworks have been exhibited at House 44 during the Art Week from March 13 to 20. A series of events took place around House 44’s public opening, including an exhibition of artworks from previous Delfina artists, such as Rana Begum, Nathaniel Rackowe and Basel Abbas + Ruanne Abou-Rahme.
