Puglia/Italy is the venue of the 13th Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean.
Aug 2007The 13th edition of the Biennial was originally planned to be held in Alexandria, Egypt, but this venue has been cancelled. The new location is Puglia, South Italy, where the 13th Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean will take place from 22 to 31 May, 2008.
From its foundation in 1985 the Biennial took place in Barcelona, Thessaloniki, Bologna, Marseille, Valencia, Lisbon, Turin, Rome, Sarajevo, Athens, Naples. Its objective is to strengthen cooperation among ministries, municipalities, institutions and cultural associations of the Mediterranean area to promote young creativity, international exchange and peaceful relations beyond the existing political and geographical borders of the Euro–Mediterranean area.
The Biennale 2008 is organized in seven artistic areas, each of them including several disciplines, under the general theme: "Our Creative Diversity: kairos" (Greek word pronounced keeros, meaning fit time, opportunity, a point in time where change is possible).
The Region Puglia, for its geographical position and its Mediterranean vocation, is considered a crossroad between East and West, an area for the dialogue and the cultural exchanges. The project foresees to host the productions of the XIII Biennale in the whole region, creating a real artistic network on the basis of cultural, social and economic vocations of the Puglia territory.
The selection was open to all young artists between 18 and 30 years of age (with exception of the "Show area"), from 48 European and Mediterranean countries. The Public Call has been closed on 30th April 2007.
